Woman killed by husband for giving birth to 'fifth daughter' in Punjab

A woman was tortured to death by her husband and in-laws for giving birth to a fifth daughter in Punjab's Bahawalngar, it emerged on Monday.

According to police, the harrowing incident occurred in Khadam area in Bahawalngar.

The suspect, identified as Nauman, and the victim, Shumaila Bibi, had contracted a free-will marriage, police said.

Police further said that the couple had two sons and four daughters. However, the victim was facing physical assault from her husband and in-laws over dowry and the birth of daughters.

When Shumail gave birth to fifth daughter, the suspect and his family members got enraged and started beating the victim, which claimed the life of her.

A case was registered against the suspect on the complaint of the victim's brother at City B Division Police Station.

However, the suspect was arrested by the law enforcers on the charges of murder.

The slain woman's body was transported to the District Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
