ICC replaces Bangladesh with Scotland after refusal to play T20 World Cup in India

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has formally announced that Scotland will replace Bangladesh at the T20 World Cup scheduled to be held in India and Sri Lanka.

Bangladesh had refused to play its T20 World Cup matches in India and demanded that its fixtures be shifted from India to Sri Lanka.

According to the ICC, the matter was discussed in detail for more than three weeks.

The council remained in contact with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) throughout this period and carefully reviewed all concerns raised by the board.

The ICC said that all issues were discussed with the BCB and assurances were also provided, however no agreement could be reached.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said Bangladesh was being treated unfairly and deserved to be part of the T20 World Cup.

He said Bangladesh is an equal member of the ICC and should be given the same consideration.

He added that if India was favoured in matters concerning Pakistan, then Bangladesh should also be given similar concessions. Calling it a double standard, Naqvi said no country had the right to dictate terms to another.

He said that if such dictation continued, Pakistan also had a clear stance and would remain firm on its position.

The PCB chairman further stated that the final decision on Pakistan’s participation in the T20 World Cup would be taken by the Government of Pakistan, noting that the PCB operates under government directives.

He added that they were awaiting the Prime Minister’s return to take a final call, after which different contingency plans would be prepared.
