London: A British judge has ordered a cash award for a Pakistani youth in recognition of his bravery in saving the life of an 11-year-old girl.
According to British media reports, Abdullah Tanoli intervened in August last year to rescue an 11-year-old girl from an attacker armed with a knife.
The court directed that Abdullah be awarded £1,000 from public funds in appreciation of his actions.
The judge also ordered that the attacker, identified as Poon Pintaro, be placed in a high-security mental health hospital.
Reports said Abdullah was working as a security guard at a shop in Leicester Square when he heard the girl’s screams and managed to protect her from the attacker.
He, along with other guards, restrained the assailant until police arrived.
Since the incident, Abdullah has been widely hailed as a hero in the United Kingdom and has received several honours for his courage.
